Job Summary:
The primary objective of the Jar Prep Manager is to oversee the operations of the Earnest Ice Cream packaging department. The Jar Prep Manager is responsible for driving EIC’s commitment to reusable packaging and championing sustainable growth in production. They provide support, direction and guidance to the team on shift, and develop procedures to ensure efficient operations and outcomes. The Jar Prep Manager has a close, collaborative relationship with the Production and Logistics teams and understands the overall goals and functions.
Duties:
- Monitor key performance indicators and use data to set expectations for the department to optimize workflow efficiency.
- Ensure all production is performed on time, meeting EIC quality standards
- Recruit, train and oversee development of new team members and shift leaders. Perform annual performance reviews.
- Build staff schedules, oversee the team’s needs encouraging a culture that supports the health of team members. Host team meetings when appropriate.
- Oversee the maintenance of equipment, create and update Standard Operating Procedures as needed.
- Track and analyze production outcomes and recycling data to accurately forecast departments needs. Order supplies as needed and maintain meaningful working relationships with suppliers.
- Promote a safe and impeccably clean department, share Earnest Ice Cream’s zero waste goals, commit to reusing as many returned jars as possible.
- Ensure the department adheres to Foodsafe and Occupational Health & Safety standards required by Worksafe BC. Represent management on the Joint Health and Safety Committee, participate in regular meetings and respond to safety concerns.
- May be required to aid in researching new equipment or tools to improve efficiency.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Managing a team of approximately 12 team members and 6-8 shift leaders hired under the Jar Prep department, including hiring responsibilities depending on the seasonality.
Working Conditions:
- Minimum 30 hours per week
- Available evenings and weekends
- In an average week, this role will be 50% administrative on a computer, and 50% in-person meetings and tasks on the floor, but also includes:
- Full-day floor coverage
- Full-day training on floor
- Exposure to cold temperatures (with personal protective equipment) in walk-in freezers
- Requires use of heavy machinery including electric pallets and electric lift gates, with training provided
Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to quickly analyze, identify, and address issues or inefficiencies
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and a passion to motivate and drive teams with a hands-on approach
- Ability to engage in repetitive tasks, specifically in the wrist
- Strong organizational skills
- Forecasting and inventory management skills
- Google Workspace proficiency
Required Training and Experience:
- 2+ years experience in managing teams or as an equivalent collaborative individual contributor
- Experience in logistics, warehousing, distribution and/or food production
Required Licenses, Certificates, and Registrations:
- Food Safe Certificate Level 1
- First Aid Certificate Level 1
